Philippe Sosnowska teaches building archaeology and construction history at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Liège. He is also a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre de Recherches en Archéologie et Patrimoine of the ULB and collaborates as an expert with the Archaeological Heritage Department of the Brussels Regional Public Service. Author of a PhD on building materials used in Brussels between the 13th and 19th centuries, his research on construction is based on a multidisciplinary approach at the crossroads of archaeology, archaeometry, history and history of art. The building materials are considered in all their complexities : from extraction to the finished product and their implementation. Architectural production and the way of living are his favourite themes. Reuse and building remodelling integrate this reflexion. He participates in several research projects, including one on the history of the Brussels carpentry in collaboration with the European Centre for Archaeometry of the ULg and the Royal Institute for Artistic Heritage. He has published several articles on the use of brick and its implementation, on urban habitat, including some on the specific theme of cellars, rural habitat and public buildings of Brussels. He also co-edited a book on joinery and carpentry.
